Meaford Summer Arts Program, held from July 18 to 22, 2016 was a resounding success.
The program is run by retired women teachers who volunteer their time and expertise in order to provide art enrichment for children aged 9 to 12 years.
You can see from the photos High school volunteers assist with setting up, cleaning up, serving daily snacks and keeping students supplied with paint, clean water, paper towels, other supplies and provide enthusiasm and encouragement while students work through their projects.
Guided by art instructor, Paula Almond, 24 participants released their inner artist as they sketched, drew anime self-portraits, painted watercolour animes, created book sculptures and painted acrylic birch tree scenes on canvas. The final project was to select a Group of Seven era painting and interpret it in their own styles using acrylic paint on canvas. Students received valuable instruction in art theory and were encouraged to add to their sketchbooks throughout the year.
“We appreciate your support in promoting the arts in our local youth”.
